The Story Behind Fogey Freedom

We Are Pete & Karen Hays — And Life After Fifty Changed Everything

Who Are We?

Pete and Karen Hays

We weren't planning a website. We weren't thinking about a brand. We were just two people over fifty, standing together and talking honestly about something that bothered us: the way the world quietly starts treating experience as expendable.

Somewhere in that conversation, two words surfaced. Karen said 'Fogey.' Pete said 'Freedom.' Neither of us could explain why — only that they belonged together. Pete traced it in the sand, knowing the tide would erase it. That felt right. What mattered wasn't the permanence of the idea. It was the obedience to it.

The years that followed were full — work, family, refinement, waiting. Fogey Freedom stayed with us unchanged at its core, even as we did. In January 2026, we gave it a home. FogeyFreedom.com launched, and the community began.

What We Believe About Life After Fifty

The Freedom We're Fighting For

The freedom we stand for is not about escaping responsibility or chasing youth. It is about reclaiming ownership of your time, your voice, and your direction — after decades of meeting expectatons, fulfilling obligations, and putting others first.

It means releasing limiting stereotypes about aging. It means stepping into a season defined by confidence and intention. It means pursuing new passions, speaking openly, laughing often, and engaging with the world on your own terms.

If you are here, you are not late. You are right on time.
